Harpoons

Harpoons are the Fishing tools for tuna, swordfish and sharks, which you catch at fishing spots with a Harpoon option. The basic Harpoon only lets you fish them. The dragon, infernal and crystal harpoons also make every catch faster, can be wielded, and replace the basic Harpoon once you have their Fishing level. All four are sold for skilling points in the Fishing shop in the Skilling Zone, and all of them can be traded.

SKP = skilling points. Each catch takes a random time around the average shown. The basic Harpoon cannot be wielded. The other three are weak weapons: besides the bonuses above they have +1 slash defence, and they attack every 6 ticks.
How harpoons work
- Harpoon fish: tuna need 35 Fishing, swordfish 50 and sharks 76. You always catch the best of them that your level allows.
- Basic Harpoon: it must be in your inventory. The dragon, infernal and crystal harpoons work from your inventory or your weapon slot, and while you have the Fishing level for one of them you do not need a basic Harpoon. Below that level you still need the basic Harpoon.
- Attack level: you only need an Attack level to wield a harpoon: 60 for the dragon and infernal harpoons and 70 for the crystal harpoon.
- Speed: how long each catch takes depends on the fish and your Fishing level. The dragon and infernal harpoons cut that time by 20% and the crystal harpoon by 35%. At level 99 a shark takes 17 game ticks on average with the basic Harpoon, 13 with a dragon or infernal harpoon and 11 with a crystal harpoon. Levels above 99 do not make you any faster.
- The crystal harpoon is both faster than the infernal harpoon and usable earlier: it needs 71 Fishing, the infernal harpoon 75.
Special attack
The dragon, infernal and crystal harpoons share a special attack. Clicking the special attack bar needs a full bar and uses all of it: your character shouts "Here fishy fishies!" and your Fishing level is boosted to 3 above your normal level. Since levels above 99 do not fish faster, the boost helps most below level 99, where it speeds you up a little and lets you catch a fish or use a harpoon 3 levels early.
Infernal harpoon
Each tuna, swordfish or shark you catch with the infernal harpoon has a 1 in 4 chance to also give you the Cooking experience for cooking that fish, for example 840 for a shark before XP bonuses. The fish stays raw in your inventory, and you do not need a Cooking level. The infernal harpoon has no charges, so it never needs recharging.
