The Ancient wyvern shield is a shield that needs 75 Defence and 70 Magic. It has the highest stab (+72) and slash (+80) defence of any shield in the ::bis interface, and its +75 crush defence ties the Elysian spirit shield for the highest. Unlike most tank shields it also gives +15 magic attack and +2% magic damage, which makes it a strong defensive shield for magic and hybrid setups. In return it lowers melee and ranged attack by 10 and has -5 ranged defence.
Its special attack fires an icy blast that can freeze the target.

Special attack
- To use it, right-click the shield in your Worn Equipment tab and choose its option, then attack a player or monster. The shield fires an icy blast instead of your normal attack.
- Against players the blast hits up to 15 and can miss. Against monsters it hits up to 25 and always lands, although it can still hit 0.
- If the blast lands, it freezes the target for 25 ticks (15 seconds), like Ice Blitz, unless the target is already frozen or immune to freezing.
- The shield then needs 2 minutes to recharge, and a message tells you when it is ready again. Killing another player also recharges it at once.
- Using it on a player counts as an attack, so it can skull you.

The player who deals the most damage to Skotizo always gets one of its seven top-damager items, each equally likely (see Skotizo's drops).
- Achievements: killing 55 Skotizos rewards an Ancient wyvern shield and a Dragonfire ward.
- Crates and chests: the Diamond Crate, the Wilderness Chest and the Monster Crate (a collection log reward).
- Trading post: the shield is tradeable.
