The Mage's book is a magic off-hand item for the shield slot that needs level 60 Magic. It gives +15 magic attack, +15 magic defence and +2% magic damage, and it has no Defence or Prayer requirement. Among shields in the ::bis interface only the Elidinis' ward (f) and (or) and the Arcane spirit shield have more magic attack, which makes the book a cheap magic shield for pures and other low-Defence accounts. The Pure Nh starter kit comes with one.
