The Rune crossbow is a one-handed crossbow that needs level 61 Ranged. It has +90 ranged attack and fires bolts, and because it is one-handed you can wear a shield with it. Every crossbow with more ranged attack needs at least 64 Ranged: the Dragon crossbow (+94, 64 Ranged), the Dragon hunter crossbow (+95, 70), the Armadyl crossbow (+100, 70) and the Zaryte crossbow (+110, 80). That makes it the strongest crossbow for accounts with 61 to 63 Ranged, and it is free in the Ranged Accessories shop at home together with enchanted bolts. Players can compare it with other ranged weapons in the ::bis interface.

It attacks every 6 ticks (5 on Rapid) and has an attack range of 7 (9 on Longrange). It has no special attack.

Ammunition

The Rune crossbow fires any bolts that need 61 Ranged or less:

• metal bolts up to runite bolts (+115 ranged strength), poisoned ones included;
• gem-tipped bolts and their enchanted (e) versions, from opal up to dragonstone bolts (e) (+117) and onyx bolts (e) (+120).

Diamond, dragonstone and onyx bolts (e) are free in the Ranged Accessories shop. Enchanted (e) bolts trigger the same special effects as the matching enchanted dragon bolts, but those dragon versions (+122 ranged strength) need 64 Ranged, so the Rune crossbow cannot fire them, and it cannot fire plain dragon bolts either.

How to get it

• Ranged Accessories (the ranged shop at home, ::shops): free.
• Fletching: with 69 Fletching, attach runite limbs to a yew stock and string the unstrung crossbow with a crossbow string. Runite limbs are smithed from one runite bar at 91 Smithing.
• The free crossbow has no value, so it cannot be sold on the Trading post.
• The Rune crossbow (or) is made with an ornament kit, see Variants.
