An ancient brew is a potion that boosts your Magic level and restores some Prayer points, at the cost of your melee stats. You make it with level 85 Herblore, or buy it with PK points or skilling points. It holds four doses. Ancient brews are also the base for the stronger Forgotten brew.
Effects
Each dose:
- Raises your Magic level by 5% of your base level + 2. At 99 Magic this takes you to 105 (+6).
- Restores Prayer points equal to 10% of your base Prayer level + 2 (11 points at 99 Prayer). It can take your Prayer up to 5% above your base level (103 at 99 Prayer).
- Lowers your Attack, Strength and Defence by 10% + 2 of their current levels. At 99 each of them drops to 88.
The lowered stats come back over time like any other drained stat. A Menaphite remedy, super restore or sanfew serum brings them back faster.

The Herblore shop (Herblore Tutor at ::herblore) sells the dwarf weed potion (unf) for 50 skilling points and nihil dust for 80. Herblore gives double experience in the Resource Area, at the three Piles spots in the Wilderness and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons. See Herblore training for the best places to train.

Ancient brews can't be spawned.
Using it
- You can store ancient brews in a Chugging barrel and drink them together with up to four other potions in one click.
- Combine part-used potions by using one on another, or decant them all at once; see Potion decanting.
