Herblore training

Herblore is the skill of mixing potions. This guide shows where and how to train it on Roat Pkz, what goes into every potion, how much experience each one gives and how Herblore earns skilling points. Every potion gives double experience in the Resource Area, around three Piles NPCs in the Wilderness and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons. For what each potion does once you drink it, see Potions.
Quick guide
| Potions | Where | |
|---|---|---|
| 1–34 | Anywhere outside the Wilderness | |
| 34–70 | Anywhere outside the Wilderness | |
| 70–82 | Anywhere outside the Wilderness | |
| 82–85 | Anywhere outside the Wilderness | |
| 85–99 | Anywhere; a double-experience spot for more | |
| 91–99 | Resource Area, Piles spots, Royal and Divine skilling dungeons |
Every potion takes the same time to make, so the potion with the most experience you can make is the fastest. The Herblore Tutor sells every ingredient, and making a potion pays back what its ingredients cost plus a profit; see Skilling points.
How Herblore works
- Making potions: use one ingredient on another, for example an eye of newt on a guam potion (unf), and choose how many to make, up to 27 at a time. Your character makes one potion every 2 ticks (1.2 seconds), and a potion never fails. Every potion is made with 4 doses.
- Ingredients: the Herblore Tutor (
::herblore) sells every unfinished potion and secondary ingredient for skilling points, and the potions you need as a base, such as super attacks for divine super attack potions. - Where you can make potions: anywhere outside the Wilderness, for example at a bank. In the Wilderness you can only make potions in the Resource Area and around three Piles NPCs: at the Bandit Camp, south of East Dragons and at Easts. Those four spots and the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons give double experience, and the potions you make there come out as banknotes.
- Wilderness-only potions: the extended super antifire, the menaphite remedy and the forgotten brew can only be made at the four Wilderness spots and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons.
- Overloads can only be made by Divine Donators, and you cannot use them in PvP combat.
- Super combat, bastion and battlemage potions that you make outside the Wilderness and the Royal and Divine dungeons are paid out in skilling points instead of the potion, because those potions are sold for PK points.
- Wilderness: you need a combat level of at least 100 to train Herblore in the Wilderness, and other players can attack you there. Hardcore PvP accounts can only train Herblore in the Wilderness.

"Double experience" is the experience in the Resource Area, at the three Piles spots and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons. The extended super antifire, menaphite remedy and forgotten brew can only be made there, so their experience already includes the bonus. All experience is before the bonuses in Experience bonuses. "Ingredients cost" is what the ingredients cost in the Herblore shop: the base potions (super attack, super strength, super defence, ranging, magic, super restore and super energy) are free there, and torstol costs 400 skilling points in the Herblore and Farming shops. The overload is for Divine Donators only.
Rates per hour
The table below shows what every potion gives per hour, so you can compare them:
- The hourly amounts are what an efficient player gets in real play: every inventory takes about 8 seconds to restock at the Herblore Tutor or a Piles NPC on top of the potion making itself. When the secondary ingredient stacks (crystal dust, amylase crystals, nihil dust, marlin scales, lava scale shards and ancient essence), an inventory makes 26 potions, about 2,390 an hour. Potions whose two ingredients do not stack make 13 an inventory (about 1,980 an hour), super combat potions 6 (about 1,420) and overloads 4 (about 1,130). You get less if you restock slower or take breaks.
- Boosts: pick the boosts you have in the bar above each table: a Double XP or Double Harvest scroll (or the Well of Goodwill perk), the Holy water, the Alchemist outfit, the Herblore XP clan perk and your vote streak. Every table on the page then shows your rates with them, and your browser remembers what you picked. With nothing picked the tables show base rates. How the boosts add up is under Experience bonuses.
- XP/h is the experience you get an hour. XP/h Resource Area is the same in the Resource Area, around the three Piles NPCs in the Wilderness and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons, where every potion gives double experience. The extended super antifire, menaphite remedy and forgotten brew can only be made there, so they have no normal XP/h.
- SKP/h is your profit in skilling points: what making the potions pays you, plus what the Herblore Tutor pays for the potions he buys back, minus what the ingredients cost in the Herblore shop. Potions the tutor does not buy count as nothing, and you keep them. It is the same everywhere. Double Harvest doubles the profit of every potion.
- PKP/h is that profit in PK points: right-click your skilling points and choose Claim-PKP to get 1 PK point for every 2 skilling points.

Divine potions and overloads pay a little less than their profit, because the tutor does not buy them back; you keep the potions. Surge potions cost 2,050 skilling points of ingredients and pay back 78, so they cost you skilling points; you keep the surge potion, which the PK Point shop buys for 700 PK points.
Equipment
Holy water and the Alchemist outfit
Main articles: Alchemist outfit and Other experience items
The Holy water (10%) goes in your weapon slot and gives 10% more Herblore experience.
The Prescription goggles, Alchemist labcoat, Alchemist pants, Alchemist gloves and Alchemist's amulet give 2% each, 10% for all five. Together they give 20%. The Herblore Tutor sells the Holy water for 100,000 skilling points, the goggles for 20,000, the labcoat for 40,000, the pants for 30,000, the gloves for 5,000 and the amulet for 10,000. None of them have a level requirement, and none of them can be traded.
Experience bonuses
Every potion gives the experience in the tables above, raised by these bonuses. Pick them in the bar above any rate table to see your rates with them.
| Bonus | Effect |
|---|---|
| +10% | |
| +2% per piece, +10% for all five | |
| +100%: double experience | |
+1% for every day in a row you have voted, up to +50% (::votestreak shows yours)
| |
| Herblore XP (10%) clan perk | The total is multiplied by 1.1 |
| The total is doubled |
The Holy water, outfit, Wilderness and vote streak bonuses are added together first, and the clan perk and double experience multiply the result. For example, a super combat potion gives 250 experience. At a double-experience spot it gives 500, with the Holy water 525 (250 × 2.1), with all five Alchemist pieces as well 550 (× 2.2) and with a 50-day vote streak as well 675 (× 2.7). The clan perk raises that to 742 and double experience to 1,485.
Level boosts
Your boosted Herblore level counts for the level requirements:
- An Indomitable Skiller scroll sets your Herblore level to 99 for an hour, so you can make every potion at any level. A Skill Boost scroll raises it by 25 levels for an hour. Both are on the Scrolls page.
- The Royal skilling dungeon boosts your skills by 15 levels and the Divine Skilling Zone by 25 levels, up to 99, while you are inside.
Other scrolls
- The Double Harvest scroll and the Well of Goodwill's Double Harvest perk double the profit of every potion you make (pick Double Harvest in the bar above the tables to see your profit with it).

Safe area
Not in the Wilderness, but a donator PvP dungeon: other players can attack you
Piles is an NPC who turns banknotes back into items and items into banknotes, so you can carry noted ingredients to a Wilderness spot. Every Wilderness spot and the Royal and Divine dungeons are dangerous: you lose your items when you die, as described on Items Kept on Death.
Skilling points
Every potion you make gives you skilling points: what its ingredients cost in the Herblore shop plus the potion's profit, minus what the finished potion is worth, because you keep the potion. For most potions the finished potion is worth little, so you get back almost everything you paid for the ingredients plus the profit. For example, a super combat potion uses a torstol that costs 400 skilling points, and you get about 430 back.
- The profit is the same everywhere; Wilderness spots double the experience, not the skilling points.
- The best profit comes from the level 85+ potions: 160 skilling points for an ancient brew or extended stamina potion, 172 for an extended super antifire, 194 for a menaphite remedy and 216 for a forgotten brew.
- Ingredients you buy with the Buy-X option in amounts of 100 or more come as banknotes; a Piles NPC turns them back into items.
- You can turn skilling points into PK points at 2 skilling points for 1 PK point.
- The SKP/h column in the rate table counts what you end up with in skilling points, including what the Herblore Tutor pays for the potions he buys back.
Training by level
The numbers of potions below use the experience in the table, without the Holy water or other bonuses. At a double-experience spot you need half as many.
Levels 1–34: attack, strength and prayer potions
Make
attack potions (25 experience) to level 9,
strength potions (50) to level 26 and
prayer potions (88) to level 34. That is about 40 attack, 160 strength and 130 prayer potions.
Levels 34–70: super potions
Make
super attacks (100) from level 34,
super strengths (125) from 42,
super restores (145) from 54 and
super defences (150) from 66. From 34 to 70 you need about 5,090 potions.
Levels 70–82: divine potions, stamina and bastion potions
Divine super attack, strength and defence potions give 160 experience each and only cost a crystal dust (25 skilling points), because the base potion is free; you also make 26 skilling points of profit on each. Switch to
stamina potions (185) at 77 and
bastion or battlemage potions (195) at 80. From 70 to 82 that is about 4,610 divine potions, 2,760 stamina potions and 2,230 bastion potions.
Levels 82–85: super combat potions
Super combat potions give 250 experience. Each uses a torstol, which costs 400 skilling points, and pays it back plus 30. From 82 to 85 you need about 3,350.
Levels 85–99: ancient brews and extended stamina potions
Ancient brews and
extended stamina potions give the same 250 experience as super combat potions, but their ingredients are much cheaper and each one makes 160 skilling points of profit. From 85 to 99 you need about 39,100 of them, or about 19,550 at a double-experience spot.
At the four Wilderness spots and in the Royal and Divine dungeons,
forgotten brews from level 91 give 800 experience each, the most of any potion you can make without the Divine Donator rank, and 216 skilling points of profit. From 91 to 99 you need about 8,920 forgotten brews.
Level 99: overloads
Divine Donators can make
overloads at level 99: 500 experience each, 1,000 at a double-experience spot.
Best rates

| 85 | 525,140 | 1,050,280 | 33,418 |
The forgotten brew gives the most experience: about 1,890,000 an hour at a double-experience spot. Outside those spots ancient brews and extended stamina potions give the most, about 597,000 an hour. Overloads give the most experience per potion, but only 4 fit an inventory, so they give less for your time.

The forgotten brew also earns the most skilling points, about 511,000 an hour, followed by the extended super antifire, the menaphite remedy, ancient brews and extended stamina potions.
AFK Herblore
Main article: AFK Skilling
In the AFK Skilling zone (::afkskilling) you can train Herblore at the AFK chemistry table without any ingredients once you have level 50 Herblore. You do not make any potions or skilling points, and the experience is lower than active Herblore, but your character keeps working while you are away and you earn AFK Tokens for the AFK Skilling Shop. The Holy water, the Alchemist outfit, vote streak, clan perk and double experience count there too. Divine Donators also have an AFK chemistry table in their own zone.

Other rewards
- Pet: while you make potions you can receive the
Herbi skilling pet. It comes more often in the Wilderness and the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons. - Clue scrolls and Skilling Crates: you can also receive clue scrolls and
Skilling Crates while making potions. - Achievements give skilling points for your Herblore level and experience, for the number of potions you make and for the number you make in the Wilderness and the Royal and Divine dungeons. Reaching level 99 also gives a
Silver XP Lamp. - Skillcapes: at level 99 you can wear the
Herblore cape, which the Skilling Master in the Skilling Zone gives out for free. With 200 million Herblore experience you can buy the Herblore mastery cape from him for 200,000 PK points.
