Firemaking training

Firemaking is the skill of lighting logs on fire. It is the companion skill of Woodcutting. This guide shows where and how to train it on Roat Pkz, how much experience every log gives and how burning logs earns skilling points. Every log gives double experience in the Wilderness and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons, and magic and redwood logs can only be burned there. Royal Donators and Divine Donators can also burn logs on the bonfires in their skilling dungeons.
Quick guide
Every log takes the same time to light, so the best log you can burn is always the best. Burn your logs in the Wilderness for double experience once your combat level is 100. You can cut the logs yourself or buy them from the Firemaking Tutor; see Skilling points.
How Firemaking works
- Lighting a fire: you need a tinderbox in your inventory. Use the tinderbox on a log in your inventory, or use the Light option on a log on the ground. The fire is lit where you stand after 3 ticks (1.8 seconds), and then your character steps aside so you can light the next log.
- Fires: a fire burns for 55 to 85 ticks (33 to 51 seconds) and then leaves ashes. You can cook on your fires; see Cooking training. You cannot light a fire on a tile that already has a fire or another object on it.
- Where you can light fires: only at home, in the Skilling Zone, in the donator zones and in the Wilderness, but not in the low-level Wilderness just north of Edgeville (levels 1–7).
- Magic and redwood logs can only be burned in the Wilderness and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons.
- Bonfires: the Royal skilling dungeon has a bonfire and the Divine Skilling Zone has two. Click a bonfire or use a log on it, and your character keeps adding logs of that kind, one every 5 ticks (3 seconds), until you run out. You do not need a tinderbox, and every log gives the same experience and skilling points as a fire you light yourself.
- Wilderness: you need a combat level of at least 100 to light fires in the Wilderness, and other players can attack you there. Hardcore PvP accounts can only train Firemaking in the Wilderness.
Rates per hour
The rate tables show what every way of burning logs gives per hour, so you can compare them:
- The hourly amounts are what an efficient player gets in real play. A log takes 3 ticks to light, and with the step aside and your next click, quick players light a log about every 3 seconds: with restocking, about 1,000 logs an hour. A bonfire takes a log every 5 ticks by itself until you run out; with about 10 seconds to restock every 27 logs, that is about 1,070 logs an hour. You get less if you restock slower or take breaks.
- Boosts: pick the boosts you have in the bar above each table: a Double XP or Double Harvest scroll (or the Well of Goodwill perk), the Pyromancer outfit, the Firemaking XP clan perk, the max cape and your vote streak. Every table on the page then shows your rates with them, and your browser remembers what you picked. With nothing picked the tables show base rates. How the boosts add up is under Experience bonuses.
- XP/h is the experience you get an hour in a safe area. XP/h Wilderness is the same in the Wilderness and the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons, where Firemaking gives double experience. Magic and redwood logs can only be burned there, so they have no normal XP/h.
- SKP/h is the extra skilling points you earn an hour. Burning a log also pays you its value, the price the tutors sell it for, so logs you buy cost you nothing, and logs you cut yourself are worth the same at the tutors. SKP/h Wilderness is the same in the Wilderness, where the extra points are doubled; the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons pay the normal amount.
- PKP/h is that in PK points: right-click your skilling points and choose Claim-PKP to get 1 PK point for every 2 skilling points.
Logs
Magic and redwood logs can only be burned where Firemaking gives double experience, so their experience already includes that bonus. The experience is before the bonuses in Experience bonuses. "SKP per log" is what burning one log gives you; see Skilling points. In the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons you get the Wilderness experience but the lower skilling points.

Fires in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons give the Wilderness experience and the normal skilling points; the bonfires there are a little faster.
Bonfires
Royal Donators and Divine Donators can also burn logs on the bonfires in their skilling dungeons. You need no tinderbox: click the bonfire with logs in your inventory and your character keeps adding them.
Bonfires give double experience, but the extra skilling points are not doubled.
Equipment
Tinderbox
The Firemaking Tutor and the Skilling Tutor at home give tinderboxes for free. You only need one for normal fires, not for bonfires.
Pyromancer outfit
Main article: Pyromancer outfit

The Pyromancer hood, garb, robe and boots give 2% more Firemaking experience each and the Warm gloves 1%. All five pieces together give 10%, and four pieces without the gloves give 8%. There is no level requirement. The Firemaking Tutor sells the hood for 20,000 skilling points, the garb for 40,000, the robe for 30,000, the boots for 10,000 and the gloves for 5,000: 105,000 for the outfit.
Infernal axe
While you cut trees with an infernal axe, 1 log in 4 also gives you half the Firemaking experience for burning that log. You keep the log, and you do not need a Firemaking level.
Experience bonuses
Every log gives the experience in the tables above, raised by these bonuses. Pick them in the bar above any rate table to see your rates with them.
| Bonus | Effect |
|---|---|
| +2% for the hood, garb, robe and boots, +1% for the gloves, +10% for all five | |
| +100%: double experience | |
+1% for every day in a row you have voted, up to +50% (::votestreak shows yours)
| |
| Firemaking XP (10%) clan perk | The total is multiplied by 1.1 |
| The total is doubled | |
| About 1 log in 10 gives double experience and double the extra skilling points |
The outfit, Wilderness and vote streak bonuses are added together first, and the clan perk and double experience multiply the result. For example, a magic log gives 800 experience before the double-experience bonus. Burned in the Wilderness it gives 1,600, with the full Pyromancer outfit 1,680 (800 × 2.1), and with a 50-day vote streak as well 2,080 (× 2.6). The clan perk raises that to 2,288 and double experience to 4,576.
Level boosts
Your boosted Firemaking level counts for the level requirements of logs:
- An Indomitable Skiller scroll sets your Firemaking level to 99 for an hour, so you can burn magic and redwood logs at any level. A Skill Boost scroll raises it by 25 levels for an hour. Both are on the Scrolls page.
- The Royal skilling dungeon boosts your skills by 15 levels and the Divine Skilling Zone by 25 levels, up to 99, while you are inside.
Other scrolls
- The Double Harvest scroll and the Well of Goodwill's Double Harvest perk double the extra skilling points for every log you burn (pick Double Harvest in the bar above the rate tables to see your skilling points with it).
Where to burn logs

Safe area
"Up to yew" means every log up to and including yew logs. Piles is an NPC who turns banknotes back into items and items into banknotes. Every Wilderness spot, the Donator Dungeon and the Royal and Divine dungeons are dangerous: you lose your items when you die, as described on Items Kept on Death.
Skilling points
Every log you burn gives you skilling points: the value of the log plus extra points, and the extra points are doubled in the Wilderness.
| Logs | Log value (SKP) |
Extra SKP | Extra SKP (Wilderness) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 20 | 4 | 8 | |
| 25 | 10 | 20 | |
| 50 | 20 | 40 | |
| 100 | 40 | 80 | |
| 300 | 110 | 220 | |
| 1,000 | 240 | 480 | |
| 2,000 | 300 | 600 |
- Buying logs: the Firemaking Tutor and the Woodsman tutor sell every log on this page for its value, and the Skilling Tutor at home sells normal logs. Burning a log pays its value back plus the extra points, so burning bought logs costs nothing and earns the extra points. Logs you buy with the Buy-X option come as banknotes; a Piles NPC turns them back into logs, for example south of East Dragons, in the Resource Area, in the Donator Dungeon and in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons.
- Your own logs: a magic log burned in the Wilderness gives 1,480 skilling points, while the tutors pay 1,000 for it. See Woodcutting training.
- In the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons the experience is doubled but the extra points are not, so a magic log gives 1,240 there and a redwood log 2,300.
- You can turn skilling points into PK points at 2 skilling points for 1 PK point.
- The SKP/h columns in the rate tables count these extra points for an hour of burning.
Training by level
The numbers of logs below use the experience in the Wilderness, without the Pyromancer outfit or other bonuses. In a safe area you need twice as many.
Levels 1–30: logs and oak logs
Burn normal
logs (200 experience in the Wilderness) until level 15 and
oak logs (300) until level 30: about 50 logs in all, or about 100 in a safe area.
Levels 30–60: willow and maple logs
Burn
willow logs (500) from level 30 and
maple logs (700) from level 45. From 30 to 60 you need about 400 logs in the Wilderness.
Levels 60–75: yew logs
Yew logs give 1,000 experience in the Wilderness. From 60 to 75 you need about 940 yew logs, about an hour of burning.
Levels 75–99: magic logs
Magic logs give 1,600 experience (they can only be burned where Firemaking gives double experience) and 1,480 skilling points each in the Wilderness. From 75 to 99 you need about 7,390 magic logs: about 7½ hours of fires in the Wilderness, or 7 hours on a bonfire.
Levels 90–99: redwood logs
Redwood logs give 2,000 experience and 2,600 skilling points each in the Wilderness. Redwood trees only grow in the Divine Skilling Zone, but anyone can burn redwood logs in the Wilderness: buy them from the Firemaking Tutor or the Woodsman tutor for 2,000 skilling points each, or from other players. From 90 to 99 you need about 3,850 redwood logs, about 4 hours of burning.
Best rates
Most experience
| Method | Level | Logs/h | XP/h dungeons or Wilderness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 90 | 1,068 | 2,136,000 | |
| 90 | 1,000 | 2,000,000 | |
| 75 | 1,068 | 1,708,800 | |
| 75 | 1,000 | 1,600,000 | |
| 60 | 1,068 | 1,068,000 |
Redwood logs give the most experience: about 2.1 million an hour on a bonfire and 2 million on fires in the Wilderness or the Royal and Divine dungeons, before boosts. Magic logs give about 1.6 to 1.7 million. A fire can be lit every 4 ticks at best and a bonfire takes a log every 5 ticks, but the bonfire needs no clicks, so in real play it is a little faster.
Most skilling points

XP/h Wilderness |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 90 | 600,000 | 300,000 | 2,000,000 | |

| 45 | 80,000 | 40,000 | 700,000 | |
| 30 | 40,000 | 20,000 | 500,000 |
Fires in the Wilderness earn the most skilling points: about 600,000 extra an hour with redwood logs and 480,000 with magic logs, on top of the logs' value. Bonfires pay the normal extra points, about 320,000 an hour with redwood logs.
AFK Firemaking
Main article: AFK Skilling
In the AFK Skilling zone (::afkskilling) you can train Firemaking at the burning driftwood without any logs once you have level 50 Firemaking. You do not burn any logs or earn skilling points, and the experience is lower than active firemaking, but your character keeps going while you are away and you earn AFK Tokens for the AFK Skilling Shop. The Pyromancer outfit, vote streak, clan perk and double experience count there too. Divine Donators also have burning driftwood in their own zone.

Other rewards
- Pet: while you burn logs you can receive the
Phoenix skilling pet. It comes more often in the Wilderness and the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons. - Clue scrolls and Skilling Crates: you can also receive clue scrolls and
Skilling Crates while burning logs. - Daily tasks can ask you to light logs on fire in the Wilderness; logs burned in the Royal and Divine skilling dungeons count too.
- Achievements give skilling points for your Firemaking level and experience and for the number of logs and magic logs you light. The achievements for 500 and 1,000 magic logs also give 20 noted magic logs each, and reaching level 99 gives a
Silver XP Lamp. - Skillcapes: at level 99 you can wear the
Firemaking cape, which the Skilling Master in the Skilling Zone gives out for free. With 200 million Firemaking experience you can buy the Firemaking mastery cape from him for 200,000 PK points.
