The profit shown is the average Pk Point value of one kill, worked out from the drop table with current prices and base drop rates. It does not assume a kill rate: multiply it by the number of kills you get. Untradeable drops (Kbd heads, Fire cape and Fighter torso) and the pet are not counted.
The King Black Dragon (KBD) is a dragon boss whose lair is reached through the deep Wilderness. The lair itself is not part of the Wilderness, so once you are inside no other player can attack you. Most of the profit comes from two drops that share a rate of 1/128: the Dragonfire shield (50,000 Pk Points) and the Dragon hunter wand (15,000 Pk Points).
Recommended gear
- Dragonfire protection is a must. A Dragonfire ward, Dragonfire shield or anti-dragon shield lowers his dragonfire from 65 to 13. Protect from Magic does the same, but the two do not stack, so with a shield you are free to use an offensive prayer.
- Dragon hunter weapons are the best choice because he counts as a dragon: the Dragon hunter crossbow gets 30% better accuracy and 25% more damage, the Dragon hunter lance 20% better accuracy and 20% more damage, and the Dragon hunter wand 50% better accuracy and 20% more damage.
- Magic users should cast water spells: he is weak to water, which gives water spells 50% better accuracy and a 50% damage bonus against him.
- PKers can only reach you on the way in and out, but you also drop your items if the King Black Dragon kills you, so bring only what you are willing to lose.
Getting there
- Type ::44s, or use the teleport portal at ::home and choose Monsters → King Black Dragon. Both take you to the 44 portals in level 44 Wilderness.
- A burning amulet (250 Pk Points in the Pk point shop) has a Lava Maze teleport that puts you in level 41 Wilderness, closer to the ladder.
- Run east into the Lava Maze, climb down the ladder and pull the lever that is surrounded by poison spiders. You cannot pull the lever while you are teleblocked.
- To leave, teleport out from inside the lair (normal teleports can be used there because it is not in the Wilderness), or pull the lever in the lair to go back to the dungeon in level 42 Wilderness.

- A kill gives at most one item from the table above. The rarest items are rolled first, so the common items (such as the rings) drop a little less often than their listed rate; the profit table at the top uses the real chance per kill.
- If none of them is rolled, you get 2–8 anglerfish, 2–8 cooked karambwans or 2–8 noted super combat potion(4)s instead. Every kill also drops dragon bones.
- He also drops the Prince black dragon pet at 1/1,500.
- Demonic artifacts are sold to the Demonic Emblem Trader in the Deep Wilderness Dungeon for a fixed amount of Pk Points, or traded to other players.
- Kbd heads are used to make the Dragon hunter crossbow (b).
Risks
- The 44 portals, the Lava Maze and the dungeon with the lever are all in level 41–44 Wilderness, where other players can attack you. Normal teleports cannot be used above level 20 Wilderness; an amulet of glory or royal seed pod works up to level 30.
- If you die, to a PKer or to the King Black Dragon, you keep only 3 items (none while skulled), plus one more with Protect Item. Demonic artifacts are always lost on death. See Items Kept on Death.
- Inside the lair you are safe from PKers, but the lair is multi-combat: other players can attack the King Black Dragon as well, and the drop goes to the player who dealt the most damage.
- Teleport out from inside the lair with your loot rather than walking back through the Wilderness.
Tips
- His melee attack (up to 25) is only used when you stand next to him, while his dragonfire reaches up to 9 tiles. Fighting him from a distance means he only uses dragonfire, which your shield or Protect from Magic keeps at 13 or less. If you fight him with melee, pray Protect from Melee and let your shield handle the dragonfire.
- Antifire potions do not lower his dragonfire; only the shields and Protect from Magic do.
- He has three coloured breaths besides his normal dragonfire. When one of them hits you, there is a 1 in 11 chance of an extra effect: the green breath poisons you (starting at 6 damage), the white breath freezes you for 6 seconds and the blue breath lowers your Attack, Strength, Defence, Ranged and Magic by 2. His other hits can poison you too, so bring an antidote++ and a super restore.
- Type ::dropbonus to see your current drop rate bonus. A donator rank, the Monster slayer clan perk, a Collector's ring and the Voting bonus all improve the rates above. The Wilderness skull bonus does not apply here, because the lair is not in the Wilderness.
Strategy
