The profit shown is the average Pk Point value of one kill, worked out from the demonic gorilla drop table with today's prices and standard drop rates (no donator rank, skull or other bonus). It is an average over many kills: about 9 kills in 10 give only a few dragon javelins, and the value comes from the zenyte jewellery, the ballistas and the demonic artifacts. Supplies are not counted.

Demonic gorillas are a well-known source of zenyte jewellery and the Heavy ballista. They are not aggressive, so you choose when each fight starts, but they live in level 49–54 Wilderness, so every trip is also a risk.

Recommended gear

A demonic gorilla protects itself against one combat style at a time, and its prayer blocks all damage from that style. Each gorilla starts with a random protection prayer. After every 50 damage it takes, it changes its prayer to the style of the last hit it took. Bring at least two combat styles and switch between them. Only the Holy scythe of vitur hits through its Protect from Melee.

Getting there

Run north-west from the level 44 portals to reach the demonic gorillas.

  • Type ::demonics (or ::demonicgorillas) or pick Demonic Gorillas in the Teleport interface. You arrive at the portals in level 44 Wilderness.
  • Run north-west to the Frozen Waste Plateau. Eight demonic gorillas walk around there, between level 49 and 54 Wilderness. Each one respawns 36 seconds after it dies.
  • The area is single-way combat.
  • Donators can also hunt demonic gorillas in the Donator Dungeon (see Donator Zone), and Divine Donators can fight the Divine Demonic Gorilla, which has its own drop table.

Valuable drops

Each kill rolls the drop table once, starting with the rarest drop, and stops at the first drop you hit. If you hit nothing, you get 1–20 dragon javelins. The Profit figure in the table above already takes this into account. Every kill also drops ashes.

Risks

  • Player killers. The gorillas are in level 49–54 Wilderness, and other players can attack you while you fight. Bring only what you are ready to lose.
  • Escaping. You cannot use normal teleports above level 20 Wilderness, and an amulet of glory or royal seed pod only works up to level 30, so you have to run south before you can teleport.
  • Dying. You keep your 3 most valuable items (4 with Protect Item), or none when you are skulled (1 with Protect Item). A Looting bag and demonic artifacts are always lost. See Items Kept on Death.
  • Their hits. Each of their three attack styles can hit up to 31, and the boulder takes a third of your current Hitpoints (see below).

Strategy

See the Demonic gorilla article for more information.

  • Watch its prayer. Hit it with one style until it has taken 50 damage and switches its prayer, then change to your other style.
  • Pray against its attacks. Every time three of its attacks have dealt no damage, for example because your protection prayer blocked them, it switches to another attack style. Watch its attack animation and change your prayer. If it cannot reach you for 12 attacks in a row, it switches to ranged.
  • Dodge the boulder. On about 1 in 12 attacks it throws a boulder at the tile you are standing on. The boulder lands about 4 seconds later and hits for a third of your current Hitpoints if you are still on that tile, so take one step.
  • Skull for better drops. If you are skulled while you kill them in the Wilderness, their drop rates are 20% better (1/750 becomes 1/600, for example), which raises the average value of a kill by about a fifth. If you die while skulled you keep no items (one with Protect Item), so only do this when you are ready to take that risk.
  • Other drop bonuses. A donator rank, the voting bonus and the clan Monster slayer perk also improve your drop rates (see Donator ranks, Voting and clan perks). Type ::dropbonus to see your current bonus and ::drops to open the drop tables in game.
  • Slayer. Demonic gorillas count towards black demon Slayer tasks and give 410 Slayer experience each.
  • Bank your artifacts. Demonic artifacts are always lost on death, so do not carry many of them around in the Wilderness.
