The Gemstone Crab is a Wilderness boss that spawns every hour at :45 in a single-way part of the Wilderness. It cannot be killed: it stays for 10 minutes and its health bar counts down the time it has left. When the time runs out it burrows away and rewards everyone who damaged it.

The more damage you deal, the more PK points you earn and the better your chance of rolling on its drop table, which includes godswords, Bandos armour, prayer scrolls and the Pet Lil' Gemstone Crab.

You need a combat level of 126 to attack the Gemstone Crab. You do not need to be skulled, but being skulled in the Wilderness gives you a 20% better drop rate on Wilderness bosses.

Getting there

  • Type ::crab in game (also ::gemcrab, ::gemstone or ::gem), or open the Teleport interface and choose Events → Gemstone Crab.
  • The teleport costs 50 PK points and only works from 10 minutes before the crab spawns until it leaves.
  • A global message announces the crab 10, 5, 3 and 1 minutes before it spawns, with the Wilderness level it will appear at. A gem rock marks the spot before the crab appears; clicking it shows "A Gemstone Crab will spawn here soon."
  • The quest tab shows the countdown, how long the crab has left and how many players are there.

Locations

The crab spawns at one of five single-way spots in the Wilderness, chosen each hour.

Fight overview

  • The crab is on the map for 10 minutes. Its hitpoints never drop, so the goal is to deal as much damage as you can before it leaves.
  • Any number of players can attack it at the same time, even though it spawns in a single-way area.
  • Every 3.6 seconds it hits every player within range with a melee attack of up to 10. Use Protect from Melee and you will barely need food.
  • It is immune to poison, venom and thralls.
  • While you fight, an on-screen box shows your total damage and your current drop chance.
  • Remember that you are in the Wilderness: other players can attack you while you damage the crab.

Rewards

When the 10 minutes are up, the crab burrows away and rewards every player who damaged it:

  • PK points equal to the damage you dealt, up to 10,000 (doubled while double drops are active).
  • One Gemstone Crab kill in your kill count and Collection log.
  • A chance to roll on the drop table, based on your share of the total damage. Your chance is your share of the damage × 10, capped at 100%, so about 10 drops are shared out each spawn. For example, dealing 5% of all damage gives a 50% chance, and dealing 10% or more guarantees a roll.
  • Players who win a roll also get 1,000–5,000 extra PK points and can receive elite and master clue scrolls.

A global message then announces how many players took part and the total value of PK points and drops handed out.

Equipment

Warning: This boss is located within the Wilderness, beware of player-killers! Do not bring items you are not willing to lose.

Damage is everything at the Gemstone Crab, so use the highest sustained damage setup you can afford to risk. Its Defence and Magic are both level 100, and Protect from Melee blocks its only attack.

Drops

Note: You will receive a hidden 20% drop boost if you're skulled while killing Gemstone Crab!

Each drop table roll can give one item. Pets are rolled separately, so you can get a pet and an item from the same roll. If you do not hit a rare drop, you always get one of the common drops.
